In a trial with BT Media & Broadcast and the BBC, Vislink Mobile Viewpoint UltraLink-Air cellular encoders allow camera operators to roam freely within a private network area during the event.

Vislink’s 5G wireless camera technology featured in an innovative 5G private network trial that took place during the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

By using Vislink Mobile Viewpoint UltraLink-Air 5G cellular encoders to enable wireless connectivity, camera operators could roam freely within the network area during the event, rather than having to rely on broadcast cameras that connect to the outside broadcast solely using radio (RF) signals that rely on proprietary equipment.

This allowed the delivery of smooth, uninterrupted video feeds, and the ability to interface directly into IP-based content delivery networks utilising 5G internet connectivity.

Vislink – which provided the premium-quality, low-latency mobile video connectivity technology – participated in the trial with BT Media & Broadcast and the BBC. It represented the first time the technology had been deployed in Europe for an event on this scale.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham, England, from 28 July to 8 August.
