Cutting Cords Review: The Kinivo WHD110 HDMI Extender - GeekDad

Recently I completed a living room remodel. This remodel consisted of taking all the entertainment electronics from home built-ins on one side of the room and putting them on a huge bare wall – and 180 the furniture also. The move was prompted by wanting a television larger than the built-ins would allow without destroying the cabinetry. We were also doing this because we upgraded to the Xbox One console which allowed for consolidation of the game console and Blu-ray player. The Xbox One also has a pass thru cable for HDMI to hook the DirecTV to, so one HDMI cable for all my toys!

Now I really wanted to hang this new 55 inch television on the wall and my wife really did not want a bunch of wires hanging down, so I started looking for wiring alternatives. This was mainly due to the fact that even though I had a minimalist set up (as far as HDMI wires go) and I still wanted to have access to my Xbox 360 game library. What I found was the Kinivo: WHD110 HDMI Extender Kit.

The Kinivo HDMI Extender simplifies your home’s entertainment system by eliminating unsightly cable clutter with a 5GHz wireless connection up to 40 feet indoors. Just plug one HDMI source cable into the transmitter and hook the receiver to the television’s HDMI input. That is it! It is plug and play – pairs instantly. I must admit, I was skeptical at first with the Extender Kit. I still remember the wireless RF modulators of the golden age of gaming and the lag that ensued. I have been pleasantly surprised. The Kinivo WHD110 HDMI Extender transmits in full 1080 resolution – enough to where I cannot tell a difference in the resolution at least. So now I have all of my electronics hooked up and ready to go; an Xbox One, an Xbox 360, a satellite and a soundbar (360 hooked up wirelessly).

UPDATE: I also recommend the HDMI Extender kit to anyone who has video presentations to conduct! In the past week alone, I used it to transmit my laptop screen data to a HDMI projector across a conference hall. The AV guy for the conference resort had never seen such a gadget and would normally have had to run cable for that capability.
