The fourth-generation Sony URX-P41D is a dual-channel, camera-mount wireless receiver that is easy to use and fast to set up with no menu diving. It is made with simplicity in mind for videographers, vloggers, and journalists working in the field without a crew.

The receiver is packed with professional features, including one-button NFC Automatic Channel-Setting mode and Auto-Gain functions, which handle time-consuming frequency setup and mic-level adjustments for you. You’re ready to shoot two people interviews with a pair of WL-800, UWP Series, and third-generation UWP-D transmitters.

The URX-P41D offers digital signal processing for clean audio and analog UHF transmission with true-diversity reception for reliability. It has two antennas and two independent receiver sections within the unit. Both RF signals are compared, and the stronger signal is automatically selected for output, reducing dropouts to a minimum (True diversity is available only in single-channel mode. In dual-channel mode, the receiver relies on antenna diversity).

It features a lightweight, low-profile design for enhanced mobility with compact camcorders and smaller DSLR/mirrorless cameras. Sony shooters can take advantage of the SMAD-P5 digital MI Shoe adapter (available separately for $65 USD), which provides a direct, clean digital audio connection to select Sony cameras equipped with a digital Multi Interface Shoe.

An interesting feature is the ability to plug a 3.5mm audio source directly into the URX-P41D receiver. This could be a lav microphone or other microphone-level audio.

The URX-P41D is backward-compatible with WL-800, UWP Series, and third-generation UWP-D transmitters.

The system is an analog UHF type and, in most cases, could be a better option than a 2.4 GHz type as UHF has a better range with fewer dropouts. It has three FR frequency band options. 470.125 to 541.875 MHz 536.125 to 607.875 MHz 941.625 to 951.875 MHz

The receiver can use two AA batteries (alkaline or NiMH rechargeable type) to power the URX-P41D for up to 4.5 hours. A battery count-up timer allows for accurate reading of battery running time to the minute accuracy. It can also be powered through its USB port, allowing it to run for numerous hours on a USB power pack or indefinitely if you have access to AC. With the SMAD-P5 Digital MI Shoe adapter, the URX-P41D can get power directly from Sony cameras equipped with an MI Shoe, and cartridge-type battery cases allow for quick battery replacement.

The Sony URX-P41D Dual-Channel Camera-Mount Wireless Receiver retails for $679.99 and is available today for preorder.
