While the high data rates of USB 3.0 could only be transmitted stably over a distance of five meters per specification, it is now possible to transfer the fast USB signals over longer distances using a glass fiber extension from Lindy. This is possible over a distance of 30 meters with the fibre-optic USB 3.0 cables, over 100 meters with the larger solution and even over 300 meters if cascaded twice.According to Lindy, USB signals can thus be transmitted loss-free over large distances with consistently high data transfer rates of up to 5 GBit/s.The cable is flexible, light and three millimeters thin.In addition, because of its low levels of electromagnetic interference (EMC) and radio frequency interference (RFI), it can be routed and operated in cable ducts or alongside other live cables and in sensitive environments. It is compatible with 4K USB 3.1/3.0 webcams and video conferencing systems and can be used there or in many other applications for signal extension. It is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1.You can connect the cable to the USB transmitter with a USB plug type A and power it at the same time.On the receiver side, the USB type A socket can be supplied with power via an additional USB plug.According to Lindy, the two cables (over 30 and 100 m) come with an integrated USB power supply cable with plug, type A on the receiver side, as well as a multilingual short user manual. The products do not require any special installation or additional drivers as long as they are running on current Windows or Mac systems.Read the latest news from the world of LANline regularly in our LANline newsletterDRAKA Comteq Germany GmbH & Co.
